DJ Six0Seven

I'm thinking about doing something else as a hobby in the mid-term. That may be going back to the basics and playing an instrument, or it may be just mastering the electronics. I'm not really sure.

What I do know is there's a kind of music that I would like to hear a bit more of - or perhaps I should say that it's something I never tire of. It has a lot to do with Charlie Hunter, but I'll get back to him later. Basically when Sade does a tune with a hiphop beat, that's what I'm talking about - a funked up Cafe Del Mar, or a Laswell that doesn't trip entirely too hard. That's where Sixoseven music is, carrying weight for the cool of the future. Funk, ambient, hiphop and torchy blues.

It turns out that there are two layers of hope. The first is that Turntablism is ramping up. I'm hopefull that I have the fingers for it and I'm pretty sure that I have the theory. I found a couple of interesting docs. This is the TTM. I don't know how widely adopted it is, but it seems pretty cool. Now I jumped all over hiphop for not getting out of the street, but it looks like some of that is happening for real. The creation of a language that allows turntablism to be transcribed, that's what I'm talking about.

The second inno is that digital turntables are serious business now. I got to get one of those puppies.

When I was a tyke, it suddenly dawned on me one day that my brain never stops. Daytime. Nightime. It. Never. Stops.

The thought freaked me out then and still does whenever I realize I've been immersed in some brain-draining activity for too long.

Cobb, you strike me as someone who can't go too long without being thoroughly engrossed in something. If so, you're a lot like me.

I've only been active in the blogosphere for a few short months, and I'm already exhausted. In fact, I'm finding a lot of the atmosphere somewhat poisonous. The longer I hang around and breathe it in, the more addicted I become and, at the same time, the more disgusted I am by it.

I'm going to pull back hard on the reins and try something more creative. I can only play a kazoo (and not well at that), so mebbe it's time to get back into designing.

Good luck with the music, Cobb. I hope it stimulates a return of The Force flowing within you.

Yeah, but I'm a curiosity victim. I have to keep reminding myself that a little bit of everything adds up to a whole lot of nothing.

My problem is that I've been to every major city in the US but I only know 5 of them well. Well, I haven't been to Madison, Bangor,Pensacola, Indianapolis or Toledo.

Consider this as a hobby. I've been seriously invloved in it for about 10 yrs. Made friends from all over the globe.

Digital Turntables? Wow, I had no idea. I still have two technics 1200s (from back-in-the-day) in my basement somewhere collecting dust.

I've said somewhere or another that hiphop would become serious when it becomes transcribable...and that moment would either coincide WITH or INTRODUCE a new wave of hiphop scholarship more concerned with the artform itself rather than the supposed politics BEHIND it. there is at least one other notation method being tossed around. it'll be interesting to see which one wins out.

as an aside you're wrong. you don't need one of those turntables.

you need TWO. and a mixer (if not a mic).
