On "Whiteology"
Q: Why Ask? A: a person is racist if that person believes racist things, just as a person is feminist if that person believes feminist things. a woman who thinks she is automatically feminist is probably not thinking at all, as is a white person who thinks they are, or are not, automatically racist.

'whiteology' is an attempt to prod white folks to consider the difference and the distance between what's 'automatic' for them in american society, which is so influenced by current and past white supremacy.

fzample, if people who consider themselves white believe it is unnecessary to concern themselves with racial matters, there must be a reason for that. what is that reason, and is it in conflict with your role as a christian, as a citizen, as a neighbor, as a co-worker? a 'whiteology' exercise makes it clearer exactly how 'white' one might be, in comparison to these other roles.

the ultimate aim is, of course, to kill whiteness. the foregone conclusion is that 'white' must become something else (anglo perhaps) in perhaps the same way 'negro' became 'black'. it must do so because, there is so little wiggle room between the 'white' in white supremacy, and the 'white' in the american racial majority.

so the first question i ask is "why do you *want* to be white"? so far the answer has been, 'what do you mean by white?' to which i respond, 'what do *you* mean by white', to which the reply is 'gee, i haven't much thought about it'.

that's the problem.
