It's The Thought That Counts
Politics, not religion, is the opiate
of the masses. With all respect to Karl Marx, that's where he went
wrong - the masses may have been religious because that's what was
expected, but what they believed in was politics.
Maybe there's not that much of a difference.
Certainly religion has caused much more harm in its heyday; there
is no surer cause for conflict than a man who believes he speaks
for and acts on behalf and with the approval of God.
But too many acts that would otherwise
be considered insane are justified by it's a political thing, not
a crime.
